ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a brief consideration of the political and economic backdrop, thirty-five years of neoliberal capitalism in the United States that helped create Trump the president, and gave a major boost to the far right, paving the way for the alt-right to move towards the mainstream. It considers Donald J. Trump's relationship with fascism, including his sexism and disablism. The chapter moves on to his racist and fascistic rhetoric and accompanying agenda targeted at people of color in the US and elsewhere, as well as his use of Twitter to promote a public pedagogy of hate and add legitimacy to fascism. It examines a pivotal introductory guide to the alt-right by openly neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin that clearly demonstrates that the alt-right is a new (neo-) fascist movement, but with links to older fringe white supremacist movements, rather than just a component of right-wing conservatism.
