ABSTRACT

The chapter will examine the differentiation of Orang Asli communities into urban, fringe, and remote by the Malaysian government, and the process of indigenous urbanisation. Furthermore, the experiences of individuals in the urban space – through their own narratives – will form a key consideration in this chapter. The chapter concludes by investigating the ways in which rural-urban connections are maintained between urban migrants and their rural communities through unique socio-cultural and socio-economic connections.
