ABSTRACT
This chapter explores how JAKOA’s decades-long involvement with Orang Asli communities has had implications on the notion of indigenous leadership among the Orang Asli. Furthermore, the chapter will investigate the implications of the cash crop economy on Orang Asli gender roles, the ensuing gender anxiety brought about by the introduction of cash crop agriculture, as well as the position of women in contemporary Orang Asli communities.
