ABSTRACT

The final chapter of this book will discuss how the discourse on – and of – the Orang Asli through historical, governmental, and academic lenses shapes the relationship between the Orang Asli and the broader Malaysian society – and the ways in which the Orang Asli are perceived in Malaysia’s public consciousness. In so doing, it will illustrate how such narratives have the power to undermine or facilitate Orang Asli efforts at self-empowerment and self-determination. The chapter concludes with the book’s key considerations and recommendations for future research on the experiences of urban Orang Asli migrants.
