ABSTRACT
Animal law encompasses a disparate body of law governing the treatment of animals and poultry. This disparate body of law, discussed in this chapter, includes fencing law, protection of livestock and poultry health from epidemics and health emergencies, and livestock and poultry welfare. Also discussed is the well-developed body of dog law that exists in most states that protects the welfare of dogs, mandates destruction of those dogs that are a threat to the public, and assigns liability for personal injuries and property damage caused by dogs. Wildlife is governed by a large body of state and federal law that is discussed briefly in this chapter.
