ABSTRACT

This chapter pulls together a diverse group of legal topics that are tied together by a desire for naturally produced crops and livestock for which producers are adequately compensated. Included is a discussion are the National Organic Program (NOP) that provides certification for the marketing of products that are organically produced. Also discussed are sustainable agriculture, fair trade certifications, and local and urban agriculture. The impact on agriculture is discussed of zoning, tax relief, right-to-farm laws, access to water, the Federal Crop Insurance Program, marketing assistance, and relief from some labor regulations are all discussed briefly.
