ABSTRACT

This chapter covers programs in states with significant urban development pressure that protect some land from development. Conservation easements created under legislation based upon the Uniform Conservation Easement Act (UCEA) are discussed. Use of zoning to protect farmland is discussed. Major federal environmental laws are discussed. The concepts of point and nonpoint source control are introduced. There is a discussion of the law protecting wetlands. The Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) is discussed.
