ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a basic summary of major tax issues. Federal issues covered include income tax, estate and gift tax, excise taxes, and employment taxes. The chapter is current through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Also discussed is proper record keeping for tax purposes, hobby losses, pass-through, disregarded, and separate taxable entities. There is a brief discussion of state and local taxes.
