ABSTRACT

The loss-grief addiction model is described as is the loss-grief inventory developed in the mid-1990s. This inventory and subsequent model categorized losses related to addiction into three categories: pre-addiction losses (e.g., losses occurring before the addiction to a substance), losses associated with addiction (e.g., losses resulting from either drinking and/or drugging), and losses associated with entering treatment (e.g., losses experienced due to entering treatment programs). This chapter is presented as a starting point for conversations around loss in addiction.
