ABSTRACT
The Bible has been considered an important tool to study theology. This chapter focuses on the practice of queer interpretation in biblical studies. First, the chapter interrogates the authority of the Bible, before looking at biblical interpretations relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, and trans lives. Drawing on extensive scholarship in this area, three queer approaches in biblical studies are discussed: (1) biblical hermeneutics and same sex relationships; (2) queering the Bible; and (3) queer ways of telling. Examples of queer readings are included throughout the chapter. Finally, attention is given to queer readings from global contexts, focusing on reader responses from Asian American, Asian, African, and Latin American contexts, as well as Black and womanist readings.
