ABSTRACT

The chapter will begin with a summary of the key claim of this study – that the far right’s approach to imperial issues was ultimately a means of drawing attention to ideological components of higher value. In doing so, it has established for the first time the far right’s response to imperial decline over the longue durée, filling an important gap both in the field of studies looking at the British far right and imperial history more broadly. Following this, the chapter will briefly re-state the significance Empire had in highlighting patriotic narratives as well as its use for discussions of race. It will then briefly show how Empire reaffirms the salience of antisemitism for the far right as well as conspiracy theories which attacked liberal and socialist political opponents. It will end by arguing that while the far right were marginal to mainstream imperial debates, their ideas should nevertheless be taken seriously.
