ABSTRACT

Chapter 7, ‘Feminist political economy and ecological economics: home and away’, casts its net well beyond more formal political processes and market relations to address what is left aside by orthodox economics and classical political economy – gender, nature, the household, and the commons – crucial aspects of life that the economic system is reliant upon but which are nonetheless frequently relegated to being theoretically ‘outside’ capitalism. While these lacunae were always a problematic oversight, the feminist movement and looming environmental disasters make urgent and convincing calls for bringing these issues into the mainstream.
