ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Korean sojourners in Canada and their use of digital media technologies in their transnational lives. These sojourners, who held nonrenewable one-year working holiday visas, were motivated partly by the dominant discourse that defines the global experience as an important component to become global citizens. While seeking global experiences and personal growth during their overseas gap year, the young sojourners explored particular ways of using digital media in coping with their transnational and transient lives—such as temporary control and disconnection, connection with the homeland media, and digital storytelling.
