ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the ethical practice of clinical supervision. It presents an ethical problem that could readily arise in any setting where mental health services are provided. The chapter outlines the purpose of certification and licensure review boards and the important charge they have to protect the consumer and guard the profession. Counseling supervisors monitor client welfare and supervise clinical performance and professional development. The eventual consequence was loss of both their friendship and supervisory relationship. Digital and online technology provides distinct advantages for the effective provision of distance clinical supervision. Harnessing those advantages for both the digital immigrant and digital native can assist both in receiving a meaningful supervision experience. Most ethical guidelines outline a procedure for initial resolution of a complaint through direct discussion with the offending party. In this way misunderstanding, feedback, and corrective action can be immediately taken.
