Chapter 4 covers Fourth Amendment search and seizure law, including the definition of a search; permissible nonsearch investigative activity; searches under the authority of a search warrant; searches under exceptions to the warrant requirement, such as consent, searches incident to arrest, searches under the automobile exception, exigent circumstances searches, frisks/pat down, and inventory searches; Fourth Amendment grounds for seizing property, including the plain view and plain feel doctrines; and the exclusionary rule.
