ABSTRACT

Physical development plays a central role in young children’s development. Unfortunately, in society, a continual focus on intellectual and cognitive skills repeatedly means the importance of physical development is overlooked in terms of its importance in the education spectrum. It would appear that life in the 21st century seems to neglect the importance and necessity of two-year-old children’s need for physical movement. Physical development is frequently viewed as straightforward, a matter of merely charting children against predictable age-related milestones. If wish youngest of children to reach their full potential, it is time we acknowledge and accept the interplay between brain and body. Self-initiated movement and physical experience facilitate neural pathway and nerve growth. As babies grasp, reach out and move their arms and legs around, neural pathways form, allowing the roadway between the brain and body to be constructed.
