ABSTRACT

Mwambuputa is the senior headman of Mwankuga who had fled to the Lake-shore plain from fear of ‘the breath’ of his men (cf. pp. 229–30). He was brought back with ceremony. His return also brought to a head an old land dispute (cf. pp. 188–90). For the status of the personalities concerned consult the table of villages and headmen on pp.181–5.
