ABSTRACT
We only truly know something if it is in relation to elements that are consonant with it through a common denominator—a higher-order emotional principle that links them all into a meaningful whole. This chapter examines what we mean by something that we describe as emotional. Different emotions are registers of the differing colours of that communication. So emotion is the communication between one person and another. One can think of human beings under two aspects: the instinct for survival and the linkage that exists between human beings. The latter, the linkage, is the sphere of the emotional. The author conceptualizes emotion as an action that in itself cannot be seen, heard, smelt, tasted, or touched but is accompanied by bodily changes. Emotions are the connecting link between people, and the emotions are the foundation stone of the mind, which implies that mind is substantially a relation and one that has no sensuous qualities.
