ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demonstrates how only depth psychology (one that takes into account unconscious forces) stands any real chance of restoring a seriously ailing couple relationship. It discusses how choice of partner results not just from lust and looks, shared interests, and so on, but out of deep early concerns of which both partners are oblivious, but which, by some radar, they spot and manipulate in each other. Contrary to the popular view, marriages are conceived neither in heaven nor hell, but in infancy and childhood. This is not to say things were done to a helpless child that subsequently formed its character, and thus we can happily blame the parents for later troubles, including a bad marriage.
