ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the most findings in genetic research and discusses the view of genes as a more or less open system whose function is determined by multiple factors. It looks at the mutual influence of genes and environmental factors during gestation and their impact on the development of the nervous system. The genetic code is embedded in the sequence of the building blocks of the DNA. In humans, the modification of genetic expression through learning is particular efficient and has led to cultural evolution. Humans change much more through cultural evolution than through biological evolution Genetic expression is translated into the emergence of new neurons and the strengthening of existing neurons. A person may be born with a sensitive nervous system that is easily overwhelmed, but it is the interaction of nervous system and environment that determines how the personality actually unfolds.
