ABSTRACT

To some extent, with sibling rivalry much depends on how old the children are. Take the toddler who bites or hits his new-born baby brother, and compare that with the story of the 8-year-old who dropped a heavy cast-iron pan onto the head of his baby brother asleep in the cot. Every child who has difficulty in making friends is suffering from a powerful sense of low self-esteem. This is always a result of other, more complex, factors, but it is the main element that needs to be addressed. Making friends, playing with peers, demands socializing and being exposed to children's likes and dislikes. There are a few short cuts that may help child to learn to defend himself. Some parents get their child to practise boxing, judo, or other self-defence technique, and this can only be useful. When the bullying is an exceptional occurrence, perhaps demanding the intervention of some authority and the punishment of bully will suffice.
