ABSTRACT
Rachel, a good-looking, intelligent, and talented thirty-two-year-old woman, sought analysis because of depression and dissatisfaction with work. Although she had a dregree in biology and worked in a research institute, she felt she was not using her talents and creative potential. Rachel's gift for introspection might have been one of the sources of her creative activity as well as her ability to benefit from treatment. The painting of the woman with two faces enabled us to discover that Rachel, too, possessed more than one face. Rachel saw herself as the child victim of a persecutory mother, but also identified with her mother's aggressive aspects. Rachel associated her anxiety over the possibility of the girls' death with her mother's fear of contaminating her children with radiation from the radioactive materials she often worked with, therefore not allowing the children to come near her.
