ABSTRACT

The reality is that we are far from a world without human rights violations, impunity, and torture of children and adults. The Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict is a protocol of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, formally adopted by the United Nations in 2000. The assessment of a child's asylum application has to be in line with the requirements set out in the UN Convention Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the duty under section 55 of the UK Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009, indeed the Protection of Children Act. Forced child begging is another child exploitation in which underage boys and girls are forced to beg through psychological and physical coercion. To reduce vulnerabilities that make children susceptible to trafficking, UNICEF assists governments in strengthening laws, policies, and services including legislative reviews and reforms, establishing minimum labour standards, and supporting access to education.
