ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors review the key aspects of the Ershad coaching framework and explain how they have worked together to co-construct the approach. The Ershad coaching framework is designed to support individuals on journeys of discovery towards more aligned and purposeful selves. Ershad coaching is a methodology for facilitating the self-guidance of people who wish to work actively towards a positive intention for the future. The Ershad coaching framework is made up of three components: the partnership conditions, the conversational process, and the Alignment Wheel. The partnership conditions are a prerequisite for effective coaching conversations. Effective facilitators will demonstrate the "coaching way of being" during the conversational process. In Ershad coaching, this coaching way of being is characterised by patience, humanity, humility, and positivity. The primary role of the Alignment Wheel is to ensure that the learner's self-selected pathway is the most appropriate one to follow.
