ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some contextual information for the use of coaching within Islamic culture. It presents some relevant characteristics of Islamic culture, reflecting on how each of these may impact on the practice of coaching. There has been a short survey of guidance and mentoring within Islamic culture. The chapter has identified that personal support for development can be an essential part of Islamic culture. It proposes that coaching can play an important role in supporting the growth, development, and success of Muslims. A coach is a person who supports others to grow and develop towards their desired futures. Coaches should be skilled at managing conversations and possess knowledge of tools and techniques for supporting sustainable change in others. According to Abu Ghazaleh, Guidance is the key mechanism in mentoring and supporting operations, forming the centre of the interactive relationship that develops between the educational guide and his or her audience.
