ABSTRACT

People may sleep too much or too little, have non-refreshing sleep, and wake-up during the night. A disturbed sleep pattern can make it difficult to think clearly, make patient feel irritable, make it difficult to concentrate and affect patient’s memory, as well as increasing patient’s fatigue. One idea is that sleep is a behaviour that has evolved because it served a purpose for our ancestors. Microsleep can impair our ability to concentrate on tasks that require us to focus our attention for long periods of time Sleep debt refers to the idea that if psychotherapists miss out on say 4 hours of sleep one night, psychotherapists need to balance our 'sleep books' by getting an extra 4 the next night. Sleep efficiency describes the relationship between how long psychotherapists are in bed and how long their actually asleep. This will help to set body patientsclock, it will help patient fall asleep and improve the quality of patients sleep.
