ABSTRACT

The dream indicated the progress of psychical adjustment and a definite stage in the analysis. The unconscious Oedipus wishes and the transference of these upon the analyst have become articulate in the dream. The modification of the super-ego is apparent in the sympathetic "voices." The analyst however can draw deductions from the change in manifest content between the first and second dream concerning the psychical work done by the analysis during the interval. The neurosis from which the patient suffered was of the type generally called narcissistic. A succession of homo-sexual dreams will give place at last to the emergence of hetero-sexual ones. This is indicative of the progress in analysis. The actual analysis itself for some time prior to this dream had brought elucidation of anal phantasies and anal defences against castration fears. Direct rivalry and hostility to the father on the genital level had been elaborated in the transference.
