ABSTRACT

One way of thinking about the self is in symbolic images. But since the self comprises the totality of the psyche, another way would be to make an inventory of its parts adding an “x” for what is unknown and unknowable. Thus one can indicate that united the self comprises more than the sum of its parts formed by deintegration; all the known or psychically speaking unknown (unconscious) parts of the cosmos, inasmuch as it could be perceived and known about, are to be included. It is usual to assert that the self comprises the internal world formed by deintegration and perceived by the individual in his known and unknown aspects together with the external world as likewise known and unknown by the individual. It is clearly different from and more comprehensive than the ego and the sense of being oneself which, as I have said, is a self representation only.
