ABSTRACT

To free ourselves from fear, we must first learn to claim space. Claiming space—summoning space—is a critical stepping-stone to shared knowledge and to genuine discourse, which rest on the dialectic between female and male signifiers, between receptivity and potency, between interiority and penetration. But how do we make this claim? How do we begin to dismantle the defenses and resist the negations? Signposts illuminating this pathway emerge from our work in the clinic. Here, I offer anecdotes from my practice.
