ABSTRACT

How can a vanished subject be made to rise from the ashes? Cervantes’ answer is clear. Madness is a social link that allows the return and revival of erased events, of occupations that have disappeared, of people ostracised by scoundrels. Accompanied by his cortege, Don Quixote takes on the endlessly renewed task of uncovering defeat, loss of face, slaps in the face, all the while placing himself at risk of disappearing.
