ABSTRACT

A patient whose grande hysterie revived again after the unexpected loss of her adored elder boy, and who in her distaste for life was constantly preoccupied with suicidal ideas, dreamt one day amongst other things that she is standing in front of her younger boy hesitating whether she should undress and wash herself naked in front of the little fellow. The patient provided the appropriate material for this from her own experience. She loved the elder boy so much that she never allowed him to be bathed and washed by anyone except herself. Another patient on the very same day submitted something very similar. He related the following childhood’s memory that had made a very strong impression on him; his mother told him as a little child that her brother had been a ‘mother’s boy’; he had always run after his mother, would not go to sleep without her, etc.
