ABSTRACT
By analogy with Schiller’s poem ‘The Ring of Polycrates ’ one could give this name to the superstition that dreads lest things should ‘go too well’ with one, because then a pro-Portionately heavier punishment is to be expected from God. In an analysis it could be traced to a bad conscience due to personal phantasies that were reprehensible.
