ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some of the things people have found helpful, as they try to pick up their lives once more and to go on alone. Over my many years as a counsellor the author found the image to be most helpful when trying to find an appropriate analogy about grief. It is in relation to ping-pong balls. The chapter reminds the reader of the comment the author made about the many kinds of loss that trigger the bereavement or grief reactions. The chapter shows that the author was thinking of the many break-ups in relationships and divorce situations, but there are other examples, too. It is important not to underestimate the gravity of the losses describes in the chapter and the struggles that people go through 4 as they try to come to terms with their particular loss. Sometimes another person's sense of loss makes no sense to 6 those around them.
