ABSTRACT

Some of the measures, restrictions, limitations, advices, rules and so forth are of importance for any psychotherapeutic group. Others, as for instance abstinence from physical contact and from private relationships are necessary in particular for the purpose of analysis, but are partly valid for any intensive psychotherapeutic group. The individual patient either joins an on-going group or he may start in a newly formed group with others which may either be closed or slow-open. The setting in a circle is important though still not generally observed even in some institutions where group psychotherapy is a principal method. Position refers to the particular seats which members occupy in the group session, and any related behaviour. Patients may use seating arrangements to establish sub-groups, either continuing those of a previous session, or those arising out of some informal warm-up activity. One would not offer analytic group psychotherapy to socially irresponsible or psychopathic patients.
