ABSTRACT

There are several common irrational belief systems, or beliefs, that underlie people's thinking about their selves and about the world. They are often "learnt" early on in life and so become the unchallenged, often unconscious, basis of their thinking patterns. If these beliefs are held too rigidly, they are likely to lead to emotional distress later on in life, or they may even damage other people. People have to learn to change the old thought forms: many are irrational; some they developed because they were lied to; they were wrong. This is especially true where there were family secrets, prejudice and/or abuse. One part of healing the family dynamic, any prejudice, or abuse, is to expose the negative thought forms as lies. Another part is to restore the self-esteem and the lack of self-confidence that often accompanies this sort of conditioning.
