ABSTRACT

There is much controversy over the use of stimulant medication. There is some research being done about this, but still not a lot is known, at least not by the consumer. Some children appear to respond to medication. To further complicate the situation, children who manifest the behaviours, whether they have exhibited them early on or somewhat later in their childhood lives, and regardless of the etiology, receive a great deal of negative reaction. Providing opportunities for children to make many statements about the self, sharing thoughts, opinions, ideas, imaginings—are self-supporting. Most attention deficit hyperactive disorder children, as well as those who have experienced trauma or have lived in dysfunctional families, often do not have the opportunity to gain the mastery they need at each developmental level. One of the most important parts of the therapeutic process has to do with helping children learn how to be self-nurturing.
