ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on concepts discussed in this book. The book presents a concluding section of Insight and Interpretation as one of a group of papers at a meeting of psychoanalysts and philosophers in the Philosophy Department of Columbia University, sponsored by that Department and the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. The meeting, including participants from outside Columbia University, was designed to promote dialogue between the two disciplines. The book devotes the presentation to careful explication of the assumptions, language, and methods on the basis of which psychoanalysts arrive at their insights and interpretations. In this effort, the author drew upon my many writings on the theory and practice of psychoanalysis, the same ones that have been alluded to throughout this book. Upon reviewing this talk today, it seems to sum up the foundational ideas of Insight and Interpretation.
