ABSTRACT

It is very difficult to give an idea of psycho-analytical technique through description. In fact, the only way of becoming acquainted with another analyst's technique is through discussion of case material in supervision sessions, seminars, or study groups. Some idea of the technique may be gleaned from certain reports of case-material in which the author gives the sequence of associations and interpretations, such as the child's material in and some others. It is important for the understanding of Melanie Klein's technique to emphasize that this has never been her view. Indeed she and her followers consider that the deeper the analysis the more primitive the processes mobilized, the more essential it is to adhere rigorously to the basic psycho-analytic method. The problem is often raised at analytical symposia whether the mutative factors in psycho-analysis are more related to insight or to a corrective object relationship.
