ABSTRACT

The advanced training group, membership of which was by invitation, was intended primarily for those who were expected to become members of the future conference staff. The conferences are for the benefit of members and the task of the staff is to help members. With both institutions, Christian Teamwork and the Washington School, we have put forward the hypothesis that it would be inappropriate for the Institute to run conferences on their behalf as a continuing project. The next step after membership of the advanced training group is to be a staff member under supervision. Such staff members normally become consultants to study groups and to application groups. Supervision of new staff members who are taking application groups for the first time is not easy. During the intergroup exercise, new staff members form a part of the staff group that remains with the director of the exercise.
