ABSTRACT

Around 40% of children are insecure. They may be clingy, scared to be in challenging situations or easily frightened by things that others of their age never worry about. They may express the insecurity by adopting an aloof position, avoiding emotion in themselves and others, although from time to time they collapse and parents can see how scared they are deep down. Or they may be a confusing mixture of clinginess and aloofness: sometimes one, sometimes the other.
