ABSTRACT

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), to give it its formal label, has become an increasingly widely used diagnosis by doctors, applied to a great many children who would previously have just been dubbed ‘difficult’. One reason for this is that drug companies have persuaded doctors to prescribe drugs for children who attract this label. Whilst these drugs do reduce the symptoms in some children and provide desperate parents with some relief, there are many worries about the side-effects of taking the drugs, especially if they are taken for years on end.
