ABSTRACT

The implication is that the work of therapy is to lead to different hopes. The patient will perhaps be able to stop trying to convert everyone into a persecutor. The therapist must know enough to understand something of the transference of desire and demand in order to help her patient free himself to move within it. The therapist is supposed to take responsibility. If the therapist interprets this transference too soon, she will confirm the image of the one who knows. Experience is very helpful in this area and enables the therapist to overcome her own shame at talking about sexuality and erotic fantasies with the patient. One of the main areas of difficulty in ending faced by all therapists is the matter of their own endings as therapists. Therapists will have seen some men and women who are suffering from the loss of a job or profession. Suicide is a cause for anxiety among therapists.
