ABSTRACT

The general field in which the analytic therapist is working will be next to others but will have its own characteristics. The therapist who has been trained to have a pluralist approach will consider all these aspects of readiness to end, and will have to suffer from knowing that they are not all met in any given case. The therapist also had a mother, and she too felt some of the guilt of the young at observing the deterioration of the once all-powerful, active mother into the pathetic figure of the old woman. Some people consulting therapists have suffered similar dilemmas and have arrived at various solutions, most of which have left a residue of guilt. Each therapist has been on a training course and the reputable ones will have to fail some students. The termination of training is a process which most therapists can remember if it happened to a colleague while they were in the training.
