ABSTRACT

Pier Paolo Pasolini had unsafe promiscuous sex since the age of sixteen, occasionally as a prostitute. Sexually, he could interchangeably play the roles of top and bottom, which was, as it became clear during his analysis, linked to massive projective identification either with his mother apparently having intercourse with several men, or alternatively massive projective identification with these men sex with his mother. Since his childhood, he would spend hours at home secretly watching male nudes in art books and fantasising about the uncertain role of males in sexuality, experiencing a subtle excitement that he never felt when he watched female nudes. Paolo's mother was described as an overtly abusive beautiful woman. Paolo always tried to create confusion, ambiguity, and a peculiar sense of being trapped in situations with no escape, where everything was wrong whatever they chose to do.
