ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some key aspects of what a clinic of sexuation might involve. It suggests that an analysis in which an individual can speak about the operations of their fantasy, their position within it, and the broader frameworks that constrain and make their fantasy possible, is an analysis that holds a liberatory potential. A focus on sexuation may offer a way of presenting constructions that bring to the fore the particular dynamics that may be preventing the analysand from making headway with their symptom. Any consideration of sexuation should always be based upon the analytic material and should be capable of incorporating, at its broadest, the discourse of the unconscious as elaborated by the analysand. Any claims about sexuation should attempt to make the most comprehensive interpretation of the analytic material, rather than providing a reductive account so as simply to make a political point.
