ABSTRACT

Like anorexics, persons suffering from bulimia tend to be very frail from the emotional point of view. However, while anorexics tend to be extremely sensitive, intellectually sophisticated, and self-controlled, bulimic women are usually less complex and have great difficulties in controlling their own reactions. This chapter considers bulimia to be the easiest to treat of all the eating disorders. First of all, bulimic women are more cooperative and much less complicated than women suffering from anorexia and vomiting. Persons suffering from this most frequent type of eating disorder rarely see a psychotherapist. Their first solution is usually to consult a doctor of medicine or a dietician. The treatment for bulimia can be either individual or mixed. The author’s interventions on Boterian bulimics generally include both individual and family sessions; their sessions with yo-yo bulimics are usually individual.
