ABSTRACT

The word reanalysis refers to new analysis or 'more' analysis. Previous treatment may have finished or have been interrupted for various reasons. The phenomena of impasse and of interruption over the course of analysis impact on the unconscious and the dynamic of the transference-counter-transference. Impasse is a French word which signifies 'standstill', 'blind alley' or 'dead end'. This constitutes a vicissitude during the psychoanalytical process. The threshold of analysis proves difficult to cross. A brief foray into analysis is made so that the patient can quickly withdraw within their inner defences. This is related to a pseudo-beginning of the analysis and a pseudo-demand. This phenomenon is closely linked to the diagnosis of the analysability of the patient. The psychoanalytical impasse displays a positive side when previous analytical work has focused on psychic elaboration and the uncovering of unconscious production. The subject reorganizes their inner world 'without outside help' and without off-loading their conflicts onto the analyst.
