ABSTRACT

The International Schizophrenia Foundation, with its worldwide network of affiliates, promotes orthomolecular treatment to enable people with schizophrenia, and other mental illness, to lead healthy, independent lives. For thirty-eight years they have been holding annual international conferences focusing on nutritional medicine for mental illnesses, with a particular emphasis on psychosis. The most dangerous delusion of all is that the person does not know they are ill. Someone in psychosis loses the ability to be self-referential. They no longer know how to act in their own best interests. It is left to those around them to recognize the warning signs as indicators of impending psychosis. It is the family or friends who observe the worsening or improvement of symptoms. The very often unpleasant thought processes that accompany psychosis must produce physical reactions associated with stress, if not trauma, causing all manner of symptoms like fatigue and poor digestion.
