ABSTRACT

When I trained to be a group analyst with the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) I did my introductory course in London but chose to do my diploma training in Manchester. Manchester Group Analysis North (GAN) training is a block training from Friday to Sunday once a month for ten months a year for a minimum of four years. I chose block training because I knew I needed to be away from home so that I could concentrate on myself without having to pull myself together after each session to return to being a wife, mother, aunt, sister and friend. In Manchester I could spend the whole weekend regressed and upset without worrying that my family would witness me in those states. The therapy was tough because we had five one-and-a-half hour therapy sessions in three days. You can imagine how intense seven-and-a-half hours of therapy in three days could be.
