ABSTRACT

In men’s violence against women, there is an individual perpetrator perspective that has connections to group ideologies pertaining to control of women. However, we can also see how psychological factors in individual men indicate the emotional background behind their development into perpetrators. We can observe the extensive element of revenge in this background. We describe several interviews with abusive men and discuss ways of understanding the phenomenon of men who abuse women. Absences of attachment and empathy seem to play a central role.
